NEW LOOK OF FUNCTIONAL ART - INTRODUCING DAVID MENGES
Growing collector demand, improvements in quality and higher prices
bring functional art to the forefront

With clocks, lamps, a home bar and decorative wall art among recent designs, David’s work resonates a playful style with superb attention to detail and craftsmanship, ensures that every piece is unique and built to last.

“I always create pieces that are different, that play with shape and perspective. I let the piece arouse the senses of the viewer” says David when asked to describe his own design philosophy.

The careful selection of materials is crucial to the designer, who works with hardwoods and different metals, to produce functional art of the highest quality. His years of experience in drawing, furniture design and carpentry have thought him exceptional skills in the design and creation process, giving his work a eclectic style and a seductive, almost sexy feel, and the end result is functional art that can be adapted to any setting.

David designs and makes his art using both curvy forms and geometric shapes in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN where his studio resides. All of his commissions are made to a clients specific requirements and specifications. “This creates a genuine understanding of a clients personality which is reflected in the finished piece”, he explains.

After an initial consult David meets with a client to get a full understanding of the project and a feel for where the final piece will be placed. The next step is to finalize the design and choose the materials to be used. This process is key, and by working closely with clients David produces furniture that is both functional and a work of art.

Many of his commissions are made of a combination of hardwoods such as Maple, Oak and Cherry and metals such as Copper, Aluminum and Brass. He favors these for their contrasting colors and grain patterns. A full consultation and design service are provided to each client.
